Tomorrow View
This morning’s image, Enduring Presence, came from an early Sunday shoot. I originally discovered the composition the previous weekend while scouting after striking out at the gravel pit location. At the time, I wasn’t especially excited by it. Standing there in the quiet morning light, it almost felt too simple.
But once I brought the image into Lightroom and spent some time with it, it began to resonate with me. The simplicity started to feel like the point rather than the weakness. The mountain framed between the tree and fence creates a restrained peek-a-boo view, a familiar presence partially hidden behind the growing layers of the built environment.
While composing the frame, I found myself thinking about Andreas Gursky’s Rhine II, one of the most expensive photographs ever sold. I’m certainly not suggesting Enduring Presence is headed for a $43 million auction result, but if anyone wants to make an offer, I’m listening.
